A team of Pareto-ees is set to begin training ahead of a muddy charity challenge in support of Prostate Cancer UK this November.
The 21 individuals will face 50 obstacles over a challenging 10km course as part of the “Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest” urban obstacle course race, which takes place in Manchester later this year. The gruelling event will test physical endurance, strength and most importantly team work, as Pareto staff face the prospect of jumping into Manchester canal, racing up the steps of the Etihad stadium, crawling through mud baths and more: all in aid of raising money and awareness for the company’s elected charity, Prostate Cancer UK.
The same race was conquered by 6 individuals from Pareto in 2014 as part of a charity campaign for Sands, prompting the election of the same course on a larger scale for 2015. This year’s efforts are being championed by Pareto National Account Manager Simon Edmunds, who talks about the drivers for raising awareness and funds for the charity.
“An astounding 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, making it the most common cancer in men; but public awareness about what it is or how to spot and talk about potential symptoms is still limited.
“The research and support Prostate Cancer UK provides is essential to change those statistics. As this is a cause close to home for my family, I’m proud to support the Prostate Cancer UK charity and play my part in raising awareness. If we can make a difference to those men and their families, it’s well worth jumping into a canal for – and every penny we raise is valuable to that cause!”
Prostate Cancer UK provides invaluable support, research and awareness for those affected by prostate cancer, investing millions of pounds over the past 10 years. With a vision to provide prostate education to medical professionals and comprehensive support through specialist nurses, one-to-one support and information sharing, Prostate Cancer UK is the UK’s largest men’s health charity. More information about the charity, its goals and the work they do can be found here: http://prostatecanceruk.org/
